This is the personal homepage of Univ.-Doz. Dr. Michael Nentwich, director of the Institute of Technology Assessment/Austrian Academy of Sciences, (previously: Research Institute for European Affairs; Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies).

I have been studying the food law of the European Union, Austrian adhesion to the EU, the constituionalizing of the European Union, in particular Maastricht and Amsterdam, and various issues in technology assessement, in particular genetechnology, telemedicine and telecommunications. My current research focusses on information and communication technologies (Internet) in science and research. I also serve as the editor of the European Integration online Papers (EIoP) and take care of a few scholarly WWW pages. In March 2004, I completed my "Habilitation" procedure at the University of Vienna and received the "Venia docendi" for the area science and technology studies (STS).

    • FAQ "E-Urheberrecht": questions and answers regarding intellectual property law for scientists and scholars (started March 2004)
    • KB:LAW: Knowledge Base Copyright Law, developed in the framework of the project "Creative access", funded by the Vienna Research and Technology Fund WWTF (2004-2006)
  3. European Integration research related sites:
    • EIoPortal: common access point for EIoP, ERPA and EuroInternet since autumn 2000
      • EuroInternet: A comprehensive, interactive database of internet sites since 1995 with information on European Affairs (member of the WWW Virtual Libraries family since March 2005)
      • The European Integration online Papers (EIoP): the first fully refereed online research paper series in the field since April 1997, now in its fifth year.
      • European Research Papers Archive (ERPA): the most comprehensive search-engine for high-quality research papers in European integration
      • Archive of European Integration (AEI): Eprint archive for European integration, based on the OAI metadata protocol and Eprint.org software which partners with ERPA, connected to ERPA via the new AEIPlus service
    • CONNEX related projects:
      • EUROGOV Papers: an online working paper series in the framework of two major European research networks (started in November 2004)
      • Living Reviews in European Governance (LREG): an innovative E-journal publishing sollicited state-of-the-art articles in the field of European governance research that will always be kept up-to-date by their authors (started in January 2005)

  1. Homepage of ECSA-Austria: founded on 11 Sept. 1996 only, this is the site of the Austrian European Community Studies Association (website now taken care of by the ECSA secretariate itself).
  2. Homepage of the Research Institute for European Affairs, the largest and most widely known European institute in Austria (website now taken care of by the Institute's secretariate itself); started in January 1995.
  3. Austrian Presidency Information System (APIS): A Guided Internet Tour covering the Austrian Federal Ministry for Science's four areas of responsibility; designed for the Austrian Presidency of the European Union, 2nd half of 1998 (not available any more)
